LC Paper 1881, SA is a family firm located in Beuda, close to Besalú (Girona). Its origins date back to 1880, when the Frenchman Jean Grelon and his brother-in-law, the Barcelona merchant Sebastián Rosal, formed the partnership Grelon y Rosal to build a paper mill on the banks of the River Fluvià, which was inaugurated on 18 July 1881.
In 1968 the company Papelera La Confianza SA was founded, with the partners Pere Lloses, who provided the production facilities, Emília Vila and Joan Vila Tarradell, the industrial partners, and Ramon Prujà, the silent partner.
The control and management of the company are currently in the hands of the descendants of the Vila family. Coinciding with the 125th anniversary of the opening of its premises, Paperera La Confianza SA has changed its name to LC Paper 1881, SA.
LC Paper, 1881, SA has always used recovered materials for making paper: first cotton cloths, later paper.
Since 1973 it has had a dispersion treatment plant for recycled paper which at the moment of installation was the second of its kind in the world.
In 1993 we opened a cogeneration plant equipped with a diesel engine which six years later, in 1999, was enlarged with a gas engine. In total it produces 12 MW of electricity and 6,000 kg/h of steam.
In 1999 we obtained the European Union's eco-label.
In 1999 we inaugurated a new MP2 single-cylinder machine paper of 3.3 metres width with a production capacity of low-weight papers of 70 tn/day.
For the year 2007 we plan to put into operation a new MP3 tissue paper machine which will enable us to complement the range of hygiene and healthcare products of the away-from-home market. With regard to the MP2 machine, we plan a new in-line printing system to supply coloured papers to the hostelry trade. |
